Recently, I returned from an exciting and inspiring business trip. I started out in London to attend the World Magazine Marketplace conference, two days of back-to-back meetings with publishers from around the world. You wouldn’t believe how many people around the globe know and love Martha!
I had a family wedding in Israel, so I hopped on a flight to Tel Aviv after the conference. I’ve been to Israel before, but this time was particularly special. Of course, my nephew’s wedding was the highlight, but a close second was the craft fair I attended with Yael Ezra, our Martha Stewart Crafts products distributor in Israel. I met Yael bright and early on Friday morning at the Jaffa Railway Station. This old landmark, the first railroad station in the Middle East, served as the terminus for the Jaffa-Jerusalem railway. The station opened in 1891 and closed in 1948; from 2005 to 2009 the station was restored and converted to a promenade with restaurants and boutiques and it also serves as a venue for different events–like the city’s craft fair.
First we met with the organizer of the fair, Netanella Kahalon Levi, an avid fan of Martha (and all things Martha), and a crafter with her own shop and workshops in Rechovot, not far from Tel Aviv.
Then we visited each vendor–and what an eclectic and talented bunch. Here’s a visual tour of the fair and some of the crafters’ work…
I’ve also added my niece Maya Avishai’s cakes and cupcakes. She’s a great crafter and a big-time Martha fan. She just started a small cake business in Israel. Take a look!
