Whatcha Drinking this Summer?

By

We were all about the Negroni last summer. They’re really everything you want in a cocktail—refreshing, not too sweet, easy to make. We were tempted to keep on mixing them right through this summer, but, well, you know what they say about variety…. We’d love to know what you’re drinking, and whether you can help us come up with a summer 2013 cocktail. We’re pretty familiar with standard summer libations but would love to know about ones you’ve invented or your new twists on classics. In a comment below, tell us a little about your drink—let us know the recipe, and give your creation a name if it doesn’t have one already—and we’ll announce a winner on the Living blog next Friday, June 7.

  • Aperol Spritzer…Aperol and Champagne/prosecco/sparkling wine (something with bubbles), garnished with fresh orange slices…lots of ice. So refreshing. We had these in Europe two summers ago..Italy, Austria, Germany.

  • My Summer 2013 cocktail is: gin, sparking water, elderflower syrup, ice and a lemon wedge.

  • I’m a huge Negroni fan too, but during the summer I love sipping on Pimm’s cups. My favorite version is my Cucumber-Ginger Pimm’s Cup.

    1. Muddle fresh cucumbers, mint, lime and ginger in a glass with Pimm’s. (The juices will release and infuse into the spirit.)
    2. Add a touch of gin (If you’d like to make it a bit stronger).
    3. Add ice and top with ginger ale
    4. Enjoy!

  • Bourbito:
2 Shots Makers Mark (or other choice Bourbon)
    1-2 Slices of Orange
    4-5 Mint Leaves
Splash of Seltzer or Soda Water
    Lots of Ice

  • Fill an Old Fashioned glass With ice

Add 2oz -Grey Goose Pear Vodka

Then fill with pure Cranberry Juice

A splash of Club Soda and

    A squeeze of lime.

This is my go-to summer cocktail- very refreshing. I haven’t come up with a clever name, but try it! I’m always looking for a nice cocktail that includes GG Pear Vodka. My first was with the Four Season’s Beehive Martini! I watched Martha make it on her TV show with, I believe, the man that originally came up with this delicious drink. I LOVE to make the Beehive.

  • Botanical Spritzer

    1 ounce elderflower syrup
    1 ounce good gin
A handful of mint sprigs slightly crushed
    Plenty of ice
Chilled soda water to full the cup.

    My favorite drink.

  • I was recently introduced to Pimm’s in it’s traditional cocktail form and it is a wonderfully refreshing summer beverage.

    1 part Pimm’s
3 parts lemonade, 7-up, or ginger ale (I prefer 7-up)
    splash of lemon juice
garnish with any fruits you choose, but traditional garnishes are cucumber and mint.

  • I like Caipiroska Brazilian Drink

    Ingredients

1 lime, cut into 6 wedges
    1 tablespoon sugar
    1/4 cup vodka

  • Personally, nothing tastes better than a Paloma during summertime! My favorite is the Espolon Paloma version:

    3 oz Espolón Tequila Blanco
    1/2 oz Fresh Lime Juice
    Fresca or Sparkling Grapefruit Juice

Directions: Shake Blanco and lime juice over ice and pour into glass. Fill remainder of glass with Fresca or Sparkling Grapefruit Juice. Garnish with grapefruit peel or wedge.

    I LOVE this recipe!

  • My favourite summer drink is an ice tea.

    Elderflower-Lemon Tea with Mint:

1 cup earl grey tea, chilled
    1 lemon, cut into slices
    4 cl elderflower syrup
    6-8 cl gin
    fresh mint

mix everything together in a carafe and serve on the rocks.
