Fashion: Etnies’ “Green” Shoes

By

Feel like you don’t seem exciting enough to your social media followers? Go to the mall with $50 to buy a pair of shoes, and “heading out to help replenish Brazilian rainforest” could be a relatively unscrupulous but not entirely inaccurate tweet or status.

For the second year, Etnies is supporting a reforestation project called “Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree.” For each pair sold of the blue/white Caprice Eco, the California-based company plants one tree in an area that has experienced vast deforestation.

Last year, the initiative seeded over 35,000 trees in Costa Rica; this year, they’ve pledged an ambitious 100,000 trees to be planted in Brazil by year’s end.

Bonus? Made with recycled rubber and hemp, it’s footwear that helps the footprint you leave to be as carbon-neutral as possible.
